PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — A half dozen Portsmouth residents reported hearing sounds described as ‘explosions’ Thursday morning and early afternoon.
Portsmouth Press is looking into the source of the ‘explosion’ sound.
The Newport Daily News reports the state Bomb Squad is disposing of an ‘old ordnance.’
The sound, according to several residents, appeared to come from the Melville area. The first was heard around 10:46 a.m., while a second, louder sound occurred around 12:30 p.m.
One person claimed they heard the sound in a Middletown office. Another Portsmouth resident reported her ‘house shook.’
