PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — The Aquidneck Land Trust (ALT) is seeking funds to help purchase signage for the newly-conserved Spruce Acres Farm in Portsmouth and Middletown.
According to the ALT, a local foundation, the Ocean State Charities Trust, has offered ALT $5,000 to underwrite the production of four permanent educational signs at the newly-conserved Spruce Acres Farm. However, the ALT must raise the remaining $5,700. To date, the ALT has raised $4,450.
The signs will feature color illustrations and informative text on local wildlife, site history, watershed conservation, and agricultural heritage.
In the summer of 2017, ALT closed on the 22.7-acre Spruce Acres Farm on the Middletown and Portsmouth line.
The ALT is currently working on the property to make it publicly accessible. Improvements that must be completed before the site is open to the public, including the installation of an environmentally-friendly parking lot, the creation of a formalized trail system, and the installation of new signage.
