PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — The Portsmouth Town Council approved a Portsmouth High School senior’s proposal Monday to construct a “story walk” on town property at Glen Park.
Portsmouth High School senior Eve Lowrimore presented her proposal (her senior class project) to construct a “story walk” at Glen Park.
A “story walk” is an interactive walk including various posts along a trail. Each individual post would tell part of a story as a person walks along a trail.
The vote was 7-0 in approval. The audience in the council chambers applauded after the vote.
The various, laminated posts telling a story will be installed in the southern area of Glen Park, south of the softball field.
The first story for the walk will be Lemon the Duck, written by local author Laura Backman, who was in attendance Monday night.
Lowrimore was asked to work with the Portsmouth Free Public Library for future stories suitable for the walk.
The money for the posts will be donated by “a private donor,” according to Lowrimore. The posts would enter 2 feet into the ground with 4 feet above ground.
The posts will be constructed on March 18 and 25 with help from the Portsmouth Varsity Cheer Team and a local Boy Scout troop. The posts are slated to be installed on April 8.
A grand opening is also being planned for April 15, with a rain date of April 16.
