DUI charges top Portsmouth police reports this week

The Portsmouth Police Department announced the following arrests from Aug. 18 to 21. All arrest reports are provided by the police department.

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Driving under the influence (DUI) charges topped Portsmouth police reports this week. Featured below are reports from this past week’s arrests. 

 

Philadelphia man charged with DUI

Edward Alexander Blaine, 36, of 111 East Gorgas Lane, Apt. #FL 1, Philadelphia, Pa., was arrested on May 18 at 1:42 a.m. and charged with DUI, first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

On May 18 at 1:31 a.m., police observed a vehicle stop in the entrance of Prescott Point. The driver, identified as Blaine, told police he was “drunk” and pulled over. The driver’s eyes appeared bloodshot and watery. After failing a field sobriety test, Blaine was transported to the police station where he refused a chemical test.

 

New Bedford man charged with drug possession and DUI

Barry Matthews Almeida, 49, of 16 Madeira Ave., Apt. #2S, New Bedford, Mass., was arrested on May 13 at 8:40 p.m. and charged with the following: possession of a schedule I, II, III, IV, or V, a felony; DUI, first offense; violation of a protective order; driving after denial, suspension of license; and refusal to submit to a chemical test. 

On May 13 at 8:17 p.m., police were dispatched to Route 24 to check the condition of an operator. Police were previously notified about a white sedan operating erratically southbound from the Massachusetts’ state lane.

Police later identified a vehicle matching the description traveling in the area of West Main Road and Donna Drive. Police stopped the vehicle after observing the passenger side tires cross over the fog line and strike the curb.

Inside the vehicle was the driver, identified as Almeida, and a female passenger. The driver told police he was traveling to the casino in Newport and he did not have a license.

Police detected a strong odor of alcohol. The driver’s eyes also appeared bloodshot and watery.

After checking identification, police learned Almeida’s license was revoked. An active protective order was also issued between the driver and passenger.

After failing a field sobriety test, Almeida was transported to the police station where he refused a chemical test. While searching Almeida, police also discovered 2 Lorazepam pills in his pocket. 

 

Portsmouth man charged with DUI

Evan Hathaway Moore, 19, of 261 Mail Coach Road, Portsmouth, was arrested on May 11 at 1:53 a.m. and charged with DUI, first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

On May 11 at 1:33 a.m., while traveling on Route 24 North in the area of Boyd’s Lane, police observed a vehicle with a broken brake light. While speaking with the driver, police noticed his eyes appeared glassy and bloodshot.

After failing a field sobriety test, the driver, identified as Moore, was transported to the police station where he refused a chemical test.
