REMINDER: Bike Newport to host Farm-to-Farm Bike Ride

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Bike Newport will host an inaugural Farm-to-Farm Bike Ride this May, closing down Middle Road to traffic for the family event.

On Saturday, May 5, from 2 to 4 p.m., Middle Road will close to traffic for the Portsmouth Farm-to-Farm Bike Ride, a 4-mile ride for people of all ages and biking and walking abilities.

Middle Road in Portsmouth, lined with 6 family farms, will be closed to car traffic so families, friends, and neighbors can enjoy the experience of riding together.

Starting from the School Administration Building at the north end of Middle Road, at 2 p.m., and turning around at Benjamin Drive at the South End, riders and walkers will pass 6 family farms on their way up and back on the 2-mile route: Escobar Farm, DeArruda Farm, Quonset View Farm, Portsmouth Nursery, BAW Farm, and DeCastro View Farms.

Bike Newport instructors will be on hand at the start to assist with bike checks and helmet fittings, and along the route to offer assistance.

Partners and sponsors of the event include Newport Family Dental, Bristol Marine, Countryside Children’s Center, Aquidneck Pediatrics, YMCA of Newport County, EcoRI News, Rhody Fresh, and AIPC.

Parking will be available at Town Hall and the School Administration Building at the intersection of Hedley Street and Middle Road, and Portsmouth police will be present to assist.
