Where to find a free Thanksgiving dinner

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Free Thanksgiving dinners are available in and around Portsmouth this Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 23. 

The Thanksgiving dinners are open to everyone, whether you’re a soldier or college student away from home this holiday to those hungry who are looking for a warm meal.


Free Thanksgiving Dinners


Portsmouth United Methodist Church, located at 2732 East Main Road, Portsmouth, will hold a free Thanksgiving dinner from noon to 3 p.m.  



Sandywoods Center for the Arts, located at 43 Muse Way, Tiverton, will hold a free Thanksgiving dinner starting at 1 p.m. 

“The dinner is FREE and will consist of turkey and trimmings, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, squash and more,” according to an email from the center. 

“People who wish to attend can bring desserts, drinks and side dishes if they wish. Musicians are welcome to bring along their instruments.

“We are looking for volunteers to help us with kitchen preparations on Wednesday prior and on Thursday, setting up and serving, please call 401-816-0802 or email sdugan@phoenix-ri.com if you are interested in helping out.” 



Seamen’s Church Institute, located at 18 Market Square, Newport, will hold a free Thanksgiving dinner from noon to 2 p.m. 

All are welcome to this community Thanksgiving dinner. 

“Our Thanksgiving feast is open to the public,” according to the institute. “Local chef Kim Comfort and her team will present a buffet of traditional Thanksgiving dishes sourced from as many local ingredients as possible.  Volunteers email or call 401-847-4260.

“This event will be held in the Mariner’s Lounge and Memorial Library.”
