PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — A kidnapping and domestic assault charge topped Portsmouth police reports from Oct. 7 to 10.
On Saturday, Oct. 7, at approximately 4 p.m., police were called to a Portsmouth residence for a report of a domestic disturbance in progress.
Upon arrival, police met with the victim, who told officers she attempted to contact police multiple times; however, a man at the residence prevented her from calling the police. The man also held the victim against her will for more than three hours inside the residence, preventing her from leaving.
The suspect was not at the residence when police arrived.
Kyle Peter Bartis Johnston, 25, of Portsmouth, was later arrested at his home and charged with the following: domestic, kidnapping; domestic, refusal to relinquish the telephone; and domestic, simple assault and battery.
