We have set this Gofundme page up for those who are not able to make it to the FUNDRAISER “THE BEST FOR JESS” and are looking for a way to help. Jessica Benson is suffering from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma stage 4. She is currently had to drop out of College for 6 months of intensive Chemo. She is a trooper but this alone is enough to go through. We are trying to help the family with the bills that are piling up and etc. PLEASE HELP MY FRIENDS. ❤️ Thank You for all your support. ❤

Name and ownership change

You might have noticed a few changes along Park Avenue recently.

The former Scampi’s restaurant, a fixture in Island Park, is now under new ownership and has a new name.

Kevin Ames, the former kitchen manager for the Red Parrot in Newport, has taken over ownership of the former Scampi’s and renamed the restaurant as Localz Kitchen and Cocktails.

According to the new operators, “We aspire to be Portsmouth’s family restaurant. Our cuisine is a little bit of everything seafood, pizza, burgers, sandwiches, fajitas, barbecue ribs, pasta, filet, etc.”

Localz is focusing on local items, ordering all produce from Mello’s Farm in Portsmouth (practically down the road). The seafood is also ordered from local vendors, according to the new owners.

“We want this to be a place where all the locals go,” said Ames.

The new Localz has made a few changes, including lowering prices and offering new deals.

On Mondays and Tuesdays, all children, ages 12 and younger, eat free. Music is also played every Friday.

The restaurant is also still accepting Scampi gift certificates and Newport County dinner books.

Localz Kitchen and Cocktails is open Monday through Thursday, 4 to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 4 to 10 p.m.; and on Sunday, noon to 9 p.m.
