PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — A Portsmouth woman recently started a GoFundMe drive to raise money for victims of a house fire.

Lauren Souza of Portsmouth started a GoFundMe on Tuesday after a fire heavily damaged a house on Locust Avenue early Tuesday morning.

Souza writes:

A neighbor of mine lost their house last night due to a fire. She is a single mom of three boys.  They all got out of the house safely, however they have lost most of there stuff. However they don’t  even the simplest of items that we take for granted every day. They lost most of  clothes, food, cherishables, essentials etc.  Jessica is a hard working mom who try’s to give the best to her children. Any donation is appreciated, great or small, thank you in advance!!

On Tuesday at approximately 12:15 a.m., officers were dispatched to 29 Locust Ave. to assist Portsmouth Fire Department with a reported structure fire.

Upon their arrival, the structure was heavily involved with fire. Five occupants of the residence were home at the time and made it out safely.

The Portsmouth Fire Department extinguished the fire. The State Fire Marshal arrived and later determined the fire appeared accidental.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the GoFundMe raised $1,515 of a $50,000 goal. To donate to the fund, click here
