Noted author to discuss Battle of Rhode Island

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — As part of the 240th anniversary of the Battle of Rhode Island, the Portsmouth Historical Society, in conjunction with the Portsmouth Free Public Library, will host noted author Christian McBurney for a lecture on the famous battle. 

McBurney, author of The Rhode Island Campaign: The First French and American Operation of the Revolutionary War, will speak about the Battle of Rhode Island, which occurred in the vicinity of Fort Butts in Portsmouth in August 1778. 

Using new maps prepared for the lecture, this will be McBurney’s first lecture focusing on the battle itself. The author will also have copies of his books for sale.

This lecture will begin at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 12, at the Portsmouth Free Public Library. It is free and open to the public, but space is limited and prior signup is requested.
