PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Gerald J. “Gerry” Delisle passed away at his home in Portsmouth, RI on October 30, 2017, after a long battle with multiple myeloma. He was surrounded by loved ones. Gerry was the husband of Jeannie M. (Barron) Delisle.
Gerry was born on February 18, 1949, in Fall River, MA, son of the late Gerald and Doris A. (Murphy) Delisle. He graduated from Durfee High School and received his bachelor’s degree from UMASS Dartmouth in Political Science.
Gerry was drafted during the Vietnam War and served in Germany for several years as a military policeman. He had his real estate broker’s license and worked in real estate in the 1980’s. He spent most of his time tending to his farm on Union Street in Portsmouth. He loved the land and open space and growing vegetables.
He was most proud of saving the “Julia Ward Howe Estate”. She wrote the “Battle Hymn of the Republic”.
Besides his wife he leaves his two sons: Robert Hassan and Mark Hassan both of Portsmouth, RI, his brothers and sisters: Claire Dejongh and her husband Gene of Ft. Myers, FL,
Susan Birkett of Christmas, FL, Kenneth Delisle and his wife Pam of Milford, MA,
Gail Brun and her husband Alan of Fall River, MA, Margaret Delisle of Fall River, MA,
Stephen Delisle and his wife Brigette of Tiverton, RI, Nancy Simpson of Fall River, MA
David Delisle of Fall River, MA, Mark Delisle and his wife Amy of Fairhaven, MA, Lynn Delisle of Fall River, MA, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. His memorial service will follow at 12 noon in the funeral home.
