Obituary: Robert Howarth, 91, of Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Robert Howarth, 91, of Portsmouth, RI died on March 27 in Middletown, RI. He was the husband of the late Shirley Mae Howarth.

Born on November 20, 1926, in Tottington, in the county of Lancaster, England, he was the son of the late Esther and Samuel Howarth.

He attended grade school in Tiverton, RI, and Durfee High School, in Fall River, MA. He was in the US Navy during World War II, serving in Newfoundland and the Pacific theater.

He spent his career working for Mason’s Furniture Company, in Fall River, transitioning for a short time to Cabot House Furniture.

He was predeceased by his parents and his wife, he was also predeceased by his sister Ada Pedro, and his brothers Frank, Joseph and David Howarth.

He is survived by his daughters Lynn Rafferty and Lee Ferreira, and her husband Bill. Three grandsons also survive him: Ashley Gardiner and his wife Erin, Rob McPheeters and his wife Katherine Moody, and Brian McPheeters and his wife Shelley. He is survived by eleven grandchildren as well. 

Relatives and friends may visit with the family Saturday Morning from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

His funeral will be held Saturday, March 31, 2018, at 11:00 AM in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, burial will follow in Portsmouth Cemetery, Turnpike Avenue.
