PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Atria Aquidneck Place, a local senior living community, hosted a 3-way Chef Showdown with the Portsmouth Fire and Police Departments on Thursday.

The annual event was part of Atria Senior Living’s annual company-wide Chef Showdown.

Three competitors went head-to-head in a cooking showdown with all recipes requiring the summertime staple ingredient – corn.

This year’s competitors were Brian Jodoin, director of Culinary Services for Atria Aquidneck Place; Portsmouth Fire Chief Michael Cranson; and Portsmouth Police Officer Jack Clarke.

Judges for the showdown were Amy Manchester, catering manager for Clements’ Marketplace; John Rodman, director of museum experience for the Newport Preservation Society; and Portsmouth Town Councilor Linda Ujifusa.

Atria Aquidneck Place residents and family members, and the general public, including members of the Newport Gulls baseball team, attended the event.

The winner receives bragging rights for at least one year.

While the Portsmouth Police Department won last year (2016), this year’s winners are provided in order below with Atria Aquidneck Place as the first place winner.

1. Jodoin, director of Culinary Services for Atria Aquidneck Place

2. Portsmouth Police Officer Clarke

Similar events will take place at Atria communities across the United States and Canada throughout July, which is National Culinary Arts Month.
