NEWPORT, R.I. — The Newport Craft Brew Race on Saturday at Fort Adams featured more than 30 breweries, including Portsmouth’s newest and first brewery – the Ragged Island Brewing Co.

Ragged Island Brewing Co. opened its doors in March 2017. Since then, the taproom has been serving up Brewmaster John Almeida’s recipes at its Portsmouth location, 200 Highpoint Ave., Unit 6B.

The Newport Craft Brew Race is 3.1 mile/5K run (or walk), following a looping course through Fort Adams State Park, finishing inside the walls of the fortress.

Many runners and walkers commented Saturday on the high heat, humidity and lack of water stations (with only one station during the actual race). Water stations were provided at the start line, a second near the 2-mile mark, and at the festival after the finish line.

Several walkers also complained about the close-moving vehicles next to the route along Fort Adams Drive. At some points during the route, there was no physical space to walk except in the roadway inches from moving cars.

Featured below are photos from the race.
