PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — In a memo to parents dated nearly a week before an intruder at Portsmouth High School, the school district announced the installation of two security towers at the high school.
The following memo was sent to parents on Jan. 24.
Two (2) Emergency Security Towers have been installed on the Portsmouth High School campus. One is located adjacent to the football field and the other is by the back entrance to the school (door 8) closest to Education Lane.
They are very easy to operate, as they are equipped with a call button that is directly linked to the Portsmouth Police Department. When the call is activated, the police are notified of the location of the emergency and the caller will be able to directly communicate the nature of the emergency.
It is important to note that there is video surveillance of these towers and that any false notification in this system will be considered a false 911 call and will be investigated by the PPD.
