PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — After searching through the remains of a fire that damaged three homes early Wednesday, officials say they discovered one set of human remains.
The body has not been identified at this time.
On Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 2:35 a.m., Portsmouth police responded to Narragansett Boulevard in Common Fence Point to assist the Portsmouth Fire Department with a structure fire, which damaged three homes.
When the fire had been extinguished, a search of the ruins discovered one set of human remains, police said.
The Portsmouth police are working in conjunction with the Rhode Island State Fire Marshal’s office and the Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s office to investigate the incident and to identify the remains.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
