PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Portsmouth police responded to a motor vehicle incident Thursday morning in which a vehicle struck a guardrail and rolled down an embankment.
At approximately 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, officers were dispatched to a reported motor vehicle accident. A resident of Statue Way, Portsmouth reported hearing a loud noise that sounded like a vehicle crash.
Upon discovery of the vehicle, near Patriot Park, a sole occupant, a 21-year-old female was found conscious.
The Portsmouth Fire Department responded and utilized the “Jaws of Life” to extract the female from the vehicle.
The investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling south on the off ramp on Route 24 near West Main Rd, when it lost control, collided with a guardrail, and rolled over and down the embankment.
The woman was brought to a local hospital as a precaution.
