PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Portsmouth’s annual polar dive on New Year’s Day will benefit a local teenager, who is currently fighting cancer for the third time.

This year’s dive will benefit Hannah Wertens, 14-year-old girl fighting cancer.

The fire will be lit on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Island Park Beach along Park Avenue. Hannah will sing “God Bless America” at 11:53 a.m. and everyone will enter the water at noon.

You don’t need to enter the water to support Hannah. Cash donations will be accepted. If you can’t be there and still want to donate please reach out to Chris Farley, who will pick up donations.

There will be a raffle at a local restaurant following the dive.
