Portsmouth police arrest 2 for allegedly distributing fentanyl, heroin

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Portsmouth police arrested two Providence residents, a man and woman, on Monday for allegedly distributing fentanyl and heroin into the Portsmouth area. 

Over several weeks, the Portsmouth Police Detective Division investigated individuals who were distributing fentanyl and heroin in the Portsmouth area.

Two individuals were identified through this investigation: Erlin Taveras, 32, and Krystal Lopez, 28, both of 247 Jewett St., Apt. 3, Providence.

On Monday, May 14, Taveras was in the Portsmouth area and allegedly sold a quantity of fentanyl and heroin to an undercover police officer, at which time, he and Lopez were taken into custody.

Taveras faces drug delivery charges, while Lopez was arrested for conspiring to deliver schedule drugs. According to police, Taveras and Lopez have extensive criminal drug histories.

Seized as a result of this investigation were one vehicle and $900 in cash.

Both individuals are scheduled to be arraigned in Second District Court on Tuesday.
