Town of Portsmouth announces summer employment opportunities

The National Council for Home Safety and Security has named Portsmouth as the 3rd safest "city" in Rhode Island, according to a new survey.

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Looking for a summer job? The town of Portsmouth is seeking applicants for the following summer employment opportunities. 

The Town of Portsmouth is seeking individuals for the following summer employment positions within the Recreation Department:

Lifeguard (Sandy Point Beach) Wage: $13.00 per hour Lifeguard candidates must be at least 16 years old. Must possess valid training cards in First Aid, Community CPR and Lifesaving from an accredited organization. Must also be a certified lifeguard in the State of Rhode Island (by DEM) with a certification of Non-Surf or higher. Responsible for the safety of all beach patrons. Variable work schedule of 15-30 hours per week as determined by the Beach Manager. Saturdays and Sundays may be required. Works under the supervision of the Beach Manager.

Sailing Instructor (Sandy Point Beach) Wage: $13.00 per hour Sailing instructor candidates must be at least 16 years old. Must possess verifiable sailing teaching experience with children. Certified lifeguard in the State of Rhode Island (by DEM) with a certification of Non-Surf or higher, is preferred. 30 hours per week. Works under the supervision of the Beach Manager.

Gate Attendant (Sandy Point Beach) Wage: $10.00 per hour (No previous experience required) Gate Attendant candidates must be at least 16 years old. Responsible for collecting gate fees, checking stickers and cleaning the beach and bathhouse. Variable work schedule of 15-30 hours per week as determined by the Beach Manager. Saturdays and Sundays may be required. Works under the supervision of the Beach Manager.

Camp Counselor (Recreation Department Summer Day Camp) Wage: $10.00 per hour Camp Counselor candidates must be at least 16 years old. Responsible for child supervision and will work with children within our summer day camp. Other related duties will be determined by the Camp Director. Variable work schedule of 15-30 hours per week as determined by the Camp Director. Saturdays and Sundays may be required. Works under the supervision of the Camp Director.

Completed applications must be received in the Finance Office no later than 5:00 p.m., Thursday, April 27, 2017.
