Portsmouth Teen Arrested on Charges of Molestation

A Portsmouth woman was arrested on April 9 after running away with a 2-year-old child from the scene of an accident in the area of Route 24 and Boyd's Lane.

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — A Portsmouth teenager was arrested Friday, Jan. 6, and charged with first-degree child molestation, according to Portsmouth police reports. 

The 15-year-old male juvenile was arrested Jan. 6 at 4 p.m. at his home, according to police reports. He was later transported to the Rhode Island Training School. 

According to police reports, the victim, a female juvenile, was staying over at a friend’s house in the Common Fence Point area on Dec. 29.

The victim and her friend spoke with the suspect via Face-time texting, when he stated he would come over “to have sex with the victim,” according to the police report. He then allegedly visited the home. 

The victim’s mother filed a complaint of sexual assault with police on Jan. 4. The male juvenile was later charged with first-degree child molestation, forcible rape. 

Portsmouth Press does not identify victims and juvenile suspects by name.
