Chris Herren presents award to Boston mayor

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Portsmouth resident and former Boston Celtics player Chris Herren and his wife, Heather, joined Gosnold President and CEO Richard Curcuru and nearly 450 supporters at the JFK Library for the inaugural Gosnold Legacy Gala.

Herren shared his emotional story of addiction and the long road to recovery before presenting Mayor Marty Walsh, a proud Gosnold alumnus, with the 2017 Community Leadership Award for his efforts to support those in recovery and eradicate the stigma of addiction.

Governor Charlie Baker also took the stage to present Raymond V. Tamasi, president and founder of the Gosnold Innovation Center, with the Legacy Award in recognition of his 45 years of leadership in the fields of prevention, recovery and treatment for substance abuse disorders.

The event raised more than $300,000, which will benefit Gosnold’s innovative efforts in addiction and mental health treatment including prevention, community intervention, school-based services and recovery coaching.
