PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — A power outage at Portsmouth Middle School resulted in an early day on Friday for middle schoolers.
Portsmouth firefighters were sent to Portsmouth Middle School on Friday morning at 8:33 a.m. for a report of lights flickering due to an unknown cause.
“Upon our arrival, it was determined that there was a power failure to the school,” according to fire officials. “National Grid, the Portsmouth Fire Department, and the Portsmouth Schools facilities personnel determined that repairs needed at the street to the power supply would take substantial time to repair and the children were being sent home.
“There is not any fire or other emergency at the school besides the power outage. The school office is open to receive phone calls and answer any questions.”
