PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — The Preservation Society of Newport County, Rhode Island’s largest cultural organization, is warning visitors about an app using its content without permission.

The cultural organization, which protects and preserves 11 historic properties and landscapes, including Green Animals Topiary Gardens in Portsmouth, posted the following warning on its Facebook page Thursday.

According to the organization, an app is “unlawfully” appropriating copyright material.

“WARNING! A mobile app is circulating which unlawfully appropriates copyrighted material from The Preservation Society of Newport County,” society operators wrote on Facebook.

“Newport Mansions has no affiliation with the app called “Newport RI” or the developer, AppyCity. We want you to know that the Preservation Society does not endorse nor approve of any of the content of this app.”

The Facebook post can be seen below.
