PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Scotland returns to Newport Polo for its 13th campaign against Team USA at the polo grounds at Glen Farm, home of the NBC10 Newport International Polo Series 27, presented by BMW.
The match takes place Saturday, June 16, at 5 p.m.
The 6-chukker exhibition polo match will feature Team USA, looking to even the record of wins against rival Scotland, for a duration of approximately two hours.
The match will conclude with a Veuve Clicquot Champagne trophy presentation, autograph signing and après polo Scottish Stovie dinner celebration (sold separately, by advanced reservation).
Returning for Scotland will be Jamie Douglas Sr., James Douglas Jr., Hiro Suzuki and Mike Christopherson.
“Polo is an international sport, played in over 80 countries around the globe, and we are honored to have teams traveling great distances to play in Newport,” stated Dan Keating, captain of the USA squad.
A following of Scottish fans from throughout the region will be in attendance at the match, wearing kilts and waving ‘the Saltire’ St. Andrews cross in lively support of their fellow countrymen.
Official team headquarters will be at Grace Vanderbilt, renown for superior guest accommodations and Michelin rated restaurant, spa and desirable Newport harbor address. A Tartan Shindig on the eve of the match welcomes supporters to the hotel’s garden patio by RSVP.
Dating back more than 130 years in Newport, the polo matches are one of Newport’s grandest & most popular traditions, a living legacy from the Gilded Age with the founding of America’s First Polo Club in Newport. Open to the public, audiences of several thousand spectators enjoy the contests against international teams, as well as teams representing major US cities, playing against the home team every Sat, June thru Sept. at 5 PM / 4 PM in Sept.
The Polo Series will feature 8 international teams this season including Scotland, Italy, Ireland, Morocco, Jamaica, England, India and the debut of Poland, as well as 6 City Teams from major US cities and a few top regional rivals for an action-packed season through the end of September. This is the 27th season of Newport International Polo Series, which has hosted teams from over 30 nations including, Germany, Spain, England, Argentina, France, Egypt, India, Australia, Costa Rica, Ghana, Canada, Chile, Jamaica, Nigeria, Portugal, New Zealand, Barbados, Scotland, South Africa, Hungary, Dominican Republic, Netherlands, Kenya, Brazil, China, Italy, Mexico, Sweden, Singapore, Monaco, Morocco, Peru and Poland.

The team will be highly visible on tour of the City by the Sea in their 2018 BMW X5, when they visit the Newport Mansions, play tennis at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, take in scenic Ocean Drive in scoot coups from Scooter World, sail with America’s Cup Charters, take to the skies with Newport Helicopter Tours and surf the tide with Island Surf & Sport.
During the match, the weekly door prize will award a magnum of Veuve Clicquot Champagne, and the Stella Artois Best Tailgate will be rewarded. Specialty vendors and concessionaires will be present in the Hospitality village at the polo grounds, including the Twisted Pony Bar, Newport Polo Pro Shop, Horseshoe Wine Bar and other specialty vendors and gourmet food trucks.
