PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Stitchery, a new needle arts studio in Portsmouth, will hold a special, stuffed animal event to benefit the Potter League for Animals.
Children will be able to have their beloved stuffed animals repaired on Saturday, June 24, from 9 a.m. to noon at Stitchery.
For a $5 donation, bring a special stuffed toy and Karen Katin and Traci Vaspol will perform basic repairs. All proceeds will be donated to the Potter League for Animals.
“When sewing students started showing up to class with animals needing simple repairs like a hole in a side seam or wonky nose embroidery from too much love, I thought there must be a lot of toys in need of help,” says Karen Katin. “What a great opportunity to partner with a deserving organization and inject new life into children’s favorite toys.”
Traci and Karen look forward to being Stitchery Medics for a day, sharing the importance of repairing items instead of sending them to the landfills.
Sewing classes, taught by Karen Katin of Dancing Threads RI, and knitting classes, taught by Traci Vaspol, are available for both children and adults. A fleet of 8 sewing machines are available, and, in most cases, materials are provided and included in class fees.
Knitting classes are fully supported with purchasing guides supporting local businesses and a full resource knitting library.
