Town Administrator’s proposed budget calls for tax decrease

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Town Administrator Richard A. Rainer Jr. has announced his proposed budget for 2017-2018 fiscal year, which calls for a tax decrease.

The proposed budget calls for a projected tax rate of $15.304, a 4.38% decrease from the previous fiscal year. The current tax rate is $16. 

Town Administrator Rainer will discuss his proposed budget for fiscal year July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018 at a series of upcoming Town Council meetings, which will be held this coming week.

All meetings will be held at 7 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers at Town Hall, 2200 East Main Road. 

Following an adoption of the provisional budget on May 8, a public hearing will be held on June 7.

Adoption of the final budget is scheduled for June 12.
