PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — With the potential for flooding this weekend, Town Council President Keith Hamilton urges Portsmouth residents to help clear storm drains around town.
Hamilton posted the following on Facebook Wednesday:
With higher temperatures, expected rainfall and snow buildup, Portsmouth could see flooding starting Friday. The weather outlook from the National Weather Service (NWS) shows rain for Friday and Saturday.
The NWS has posted the following hazardous weather outlook for the Portsmouth area.
There is a moderate risk for heavy rainfall which could lead to areas of urban and poor drainage flooding Friday and Saturday. Snow melt could exacerbate the flood risk.
Hamilton asks residents to help the Department of Public Works clear about 3,000 drains in town before Friday. Residents should check drains near their own homes.
