Town seeks summer employees, probationary firefighter

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — The town of Portsmouth is looking for summer employees, as well as a probationary firefighter and Transfer Station attendants. 

The town has the following employment opportunities available. Click on the job title for more information. 

DPW Summer Help

The Town of Portsmouth is seeking individuals for routine maintenance of town property. Candidates will be paid $13/hr.

Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. (No previous experience required.)

Duties include, but are not limited to, grounds keeping, trash removal, painting and other general maintenance. Works under the supervision of the Department of Public Works.

Completed applications must be received in the Human Resources Office no later than 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2017.

Part-time Transfer Station Gate Attendants

Gate Attendants are responsible for monitoring access to the transfer station during normal hours of operation and ensuring that all vehicles have a valid sticker or pass. Attendants must also monitor the content of refuse being brought into the station.

Attendants must keep a daily log and distribute transfer station rules information and recycling brochures to residents, if requested. Attendants will work under the general direction and supervision of the Town Administrator.

Applicants must be 21 years of age or older, possess a high school diploma or GED certificate, possess a valid Driver’s License and successfully pass a background investigation.

Applicants must have the physical ability to walk around the Transfer Station to inspect vehicle stickers, trash and recycling.

Completed applications will be accepted in the Human Resources Office Monday through Wednesday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Thursdays 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Facsimiles will not be accepted.

Applications will be accepted until the position has been filled.

 

Probationary Firefighter

Applicants must be 21 years of age or older. Must possess a High School diploma or G.E.D. Must meet established departmental medical and physical standards and achieve a satisfactory score on the written examination.

Applicants must hold a valid Certificate of Completion for the Physical Performance Assessment Testing and a valid Rhode Island E.M.T.-C certificate at the time of application. NFPA FF I and FF II training preferred. Copies must be attached to application upon submission.

Eligible candidates will be required to attend and successfully complete the Portsmouth Fire Academy, if one is offered.
