Two victims sent to hospital after crash

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Two individuals were transported to the hospital Thursday for treatment of injuries after a serious motor vehicle crash on East Main Road.

At 11:50 a.m., Portsmouth police were dispatched to East Main Road at Bramans Lane for a reported serious motor vehicle accident.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash: a Ford pickup truck and a building supply truck. The supply truck was traveling southbound on East Main Road at the time. The 83 year old male operator of the pickup truck along with his 75 year old female passenger were trapped inside the vehicle as a result of the collision. The Portsmouth Fire Department along with Naval Fire and Middletown Fire assisted in extricating the two from the vehicle. The two occupants were taken to the hospital due to their injuries. The operator and passenger of the building supply truck were uninjured. The roadway was shut down for over two hours while investigators from the Portsmouth Police Detective Division, Portsmouth Accident Recon Team, Middletown Police and the Rhode Island State Police Truck Squad assisted with the investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
