PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — It’s graduation season! Here’s everything you need to know about the 2018 Portsmouth High School graduation ceremony taking place this week.
Portsmouth High School will hold its graduation ceremony on Friday, June 8, at 6 p.m. on the Robert Crudup Baseball Field at Portsmouth High School, 120 Education Lane.
As of Monday, the forecasted weather for Friday looks picture perfect with sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). The NWS forecasts the following weather for Friday:
Friday – Mostly sunny, with a high near 74.
Friday Night – Partly cloudy, with a low around 59.
Cap and Gown
The cap and gown fee is $30. Payments can be brought to the main office. Inclement weather tickets will be distributed when cap and gown payment is received.
Providing there are no outstanding obligations, students will receive their cap and gown package after graduation rehearsal on Wednesday, June 6. The package will contain the gown, cap, and tassel. Honor cords will be distributed to those students during the school day. Lost items cannot be replaced.
Prom will be on Wednesday, June 6, from 7 to 11 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. and close at 8 p.m. No students will be admitted after 8 p.m. Proper formal attire is required for admittance.
Seniors bringing non-PHS students are responsible for their guests and must provide a signed guest registration form to one of our assistant principals prior to purchasing a ticket.
Post Prom Party
This event is a wonderful activity for students to attend after the prom. The Post Prom Party is held at the Newport Elks Club beginning at 11 p.m. and lasting until 3 a.m. All seniors and their dates are encouraged to attend the post prom.
You do not have to attend the prom in order to attend the Post Prom Party. Students may enter any time before midnight but may not re-enter if you leave.
The senior picnic will take place on Tuesday, June 5, from noon to 3 p.m. at Glen Park. All seniors are invited to join their classmates and indulge in a free lunch catered by the famous Haven Brothers Food Truck. Showers are likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to the NWS.
All graduation rehearsals are mandatory for all seniors expecting to participate in the ceremony. Seniors who are late or miss rehearsals will be required to make up the time on Friday, June 8. Students should report to the gymnasium for rehearsals on Monday, June 4; Tuesday, June 5; and Wednesday, June 6, from 8:30 to 11 a.m.
The ceremony will be held on Friday, June 8, at 6 p.m. on Robert Crudup Baseball Field at Portsmouth High School. Seniors should report to the cafeteria no later than 5 p.m.
Attire for graduation is slacks, shirt and tie for men and dresses, skirts or dress pants for women.
There may be no adornments on graduation caps or robes except school-issued Honor Society cords.
If the forecast calls for inclement weather, graduation will be held in the PHS gymnasium. A decision will be made by 1 p.m. on the afternoon of June 8.
Each graduating senior will receive seven inclement weather tickets when the cap and gown fee is paid. Only those with tickets will be admitted into the PHS Gymnasium.
If a family has invited more than seven guests to the ceremony, it is up to you to seek out unused tickets from friends or call the main office to see if excess tickets have been turned into the “unused ticket pool.”
