Woman allegedly hid drugs in secret car compartment

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. — Portsmouth and Newport Police Departments arrested a woman for alleged drug possession with intent to deliver after finding drugs hidden in a secret car compartment within the vehicle she was driving. 

Josmaira Martinez was arrested and charged with possession with intent to deliver cocaine and fentany/heroin after a joint investigation by the Portsmouth and Newport Police Departments. 

At approximately 2 p.m. on Oct. 11, police stopped a vehicle operated by Martinez in the area of Park Avenue and Cottage Avenue. 

After speaking with Martinez and searching the vehicle, police discovered a hidden electronic compartment containing 58 grams of cocaine and 28 grams of fentany/heroin, all individually packaged, and $1,060.

The street value of the narcotics found, according to police, is estimated at $8,600. 

Martinez is scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning in Second District Court.
