A record $142 billion investment in transportation infrastructure was announced by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Thursday
The entire investment as announced by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for transportation infrastructure is up $25 billion from the previous year.
The $100 billion 10-year statewide roadway development plan with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for transportation projects to improve safety, reduce congestion and connectivity, and protect Texas roadways is included in the record investment as declared by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.
The Tyler District (Anderson, Cherokee, Gregg, Henderson, Rusk, Smith, Van Zandt, and Wood Counties) will receive $2.7 billion in funds from the 2024 Unified Transportation Program (UTP), which will go toward the initiatives to be mentioned below.
1-20 will be widened for $408 million from SH 31 to the Smith County boundary, $268 million will be spent in Gregg County to increase accessibility, safety, and mobility at the I-20 and SH 31 Interchange, $194 million will be spent in Cherokee County on widening and safety upgrades on US 175 from CR 3509 east to FM 347, and $190 million will be spent in Smith County to widen and improve safety along FM 2493 (Old Jacksonville Highway).
