UBER drivers in one state have been forced to pay a premium that cannot be avoided.
Uber users in the heart of Manhattan face a total of $4 in fees before their journey is even computed.
Riders who begin their journey in New York will be charged a $1 extra
In a recently published report from The U.S Sun, the surcharge is labeled “Taxi Improvement Surcharge” on the Uber receipt. The money, however, does not go to Uber or the driver. Instead, it is paid to the MTA, New York’s public transit authority. This is the result of state legislation.
In some areas of New York, this cost is in addition to other charges. Trips beginning, ending, or passing through Manhattan in New York City below 96th Street will be charged a $2.50 congestion pricing cost. And now New Yorkers must deal with yet another fee. A 50-cent premium will be added to any travel that concludes in New York City, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Dutchess, Orange, or Putnam Counties.

A new fuel fee is being implemented to assist drivers and couriers

We are implementing a temporary gasoline fee to assist alleviate the load.
Beginning March 16, consumers will pay a fee of $0.45 or $0.55 every Uber journey and $0.35 or $0.45 per Uber Eats order, depending on their area, with 100% of the money going directly into the wallets of employees.
