Changing Predictions for Atlantic Hurricane Season 2023

According to cnn.com, The Atlantic Hurricane Season 2023, which extended from June 1 to November 30 and encompassed the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea witnessed a series of storms and hurricanes.

The season began with predictions of a “slightly below-normal” Atlantic Hurricane Season 2023 by the Colorado State University Tropical Meteorology Project, anticipating 13 named storms, including six hurricanes and two major hurricanes. However, as the Atlantic Hurricane Season 2023 progressed the outlook evolved. The Climate Prediction Center at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) initially estimated a 40% chance of a near-normal season with projections of 12 to 17 named storms, including five to nine hurricanes and one to four major hurricanes.

In August, NOAA revised its forecast for the Atlantic Hurricane Season 2023, increasing the odds for an above-average season to 60%. They predicted 14 to 21 named storms, including six to 11 hurricanes and two to five major hurricanes. These adjustments took into account the named storms that had already formed earlier in the Atlantic Hurricane Season 2023.
