Russia is using US tech to build cruise missiles despite sanctions
In a recent article published by Business Insider, the US imposed sanctions to crippled the Kremlin’s war efforts and cutting off access to the technology it needed to make advanced weapons early weeks of the Ukraine war.
Russia is looking for loopholes to import US technology through neighboring states, online retailers, and a network of fake companies to build the Russia cruise missile. Russia cruise missile will be built using banned or restricted technology. It has allowed the Kremlin to have a steady supply of Russia cruise missile to destroy Ukraine’s cities and infrastructure.
Ukrainian officials last Tuesday said that Russian cruise missile used in recent attacks were built in 2023. Restrictions have been imposed to stop the building of Russian cruise missile, but sanctions need to be strengthened so that Russia cannot obtain critical components and manufacture missiles.

The US sanctions include a ban on the sale of technology that could be used to build Russia cruise missile. Russia had adapted to the sanctions and built a secret system in its neighbors and other nearby states, including Kazakhstan to build the Russia cruise missile.
Kazakhstan’s Minister of National Economy Alibek Kuantyrov in a statement to Insider said that though the country has not joined in Western sanctions against Russia to build the Russia cruise missile, it was committed to slowing the flow of sanctioned goods.
Sommerville said it was unlikely more sanctions alone would cut off Russia’s supply of American technology to build Russia cruise missile. Instead, he suggested increased coordination between governments and private companies to raise awareness of Russian supply routes and to stop them from creating dangerous weapons such as the Russia cruise missile.
