There are only a few days left for Facebook (current and former) users to find out if they qualify for a portion of the internet giant’s $725 million lawsuit settlement.

According to the article from Parade, the deadline to register a claim in the class action lawsuit settled by Facebook earlier this year is set for Friday, August 25, 2023. Customers can submit claims by mail with a postmark by the deadline, or online by August 25 at 11:59 p.m. PT, ony a few days left.

Facebook parent firm Meta previously agreed to pay the money to satisfy charges that it let third parties to access people’s sensitive data which must be taken a few days left. Cambridge Analytica, a consulting business that aided Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, was the most well-known group to gain access. While Meta agreed to the compensation, it claims there was no wrongdoing.

The sole prerequisite for a slice of the proverbial pie is that you have used the social media platform in the last several years. According to the settlement provisions, “if you were a Facebook user in the United States between May 24, 2007, and December 22, 2022, inclusive, you may be eligible for a cash payment,” which supposedly affects millions of Americans.

Claims for Facebook users who had accounts during the eligibility period but died afterward should be made in the deceased person’s name. Fill out the “Your Facebook Account” portion of the claim form using their account information.

According to Forbes Advisor, payment amounts will differ depending on a number of factors.

The settlement sum will be divided equally among all Facebook users who file claims, thus the more claims made, the less each person will receive and it will be done a few days left.

The most money is due to Facebook users who held accounts the longest during the eligible period. So, if you canceled or deleted your account during the settlement period, you may still receive payments, but you may earn less than others who had accounts throughout.

People who canceled their accounts but opened new ones within the time limit should include that information in their claim to increase the amount they get.

Your share of the settlement may take some time to reach you. Payments will be made after final approval, which is presently slated for September 7. That date, though, is subject to change.
