The Federal Bureau of Prisons reported that Emma Coronel Aispuro, 34, was freed from federal jail on Wednesday. The famed Mexican drug lord’s wife was serving a three-year term in a Texas federal jail.

In a recently published article from Metro News , she was transferred earlier this year to a halfway home in Long Beach, California, as officials prepared to release her early. Coronel was born in the United States but grew up in rural Durango, Mexico, where Guzman’s criminal organization rose to prominence in the 1990s and 2000s.
She is the child of Inés Coronel Barreras, one of Guzman’s Sinaloa Cartel lieutenants who is presently serving a 10-year jail sentence in Mexico for drug trafficking. Coronel was a Mexican adolescent beauty contest winner. Guzman married her shortly after she turned 18 in 2007.

In a recently published article from Sky News, Guzman, the Sinaloa cartel’s leader, was apprehended the following year and sentenced to life in prison at a US facility in 2019 for orchestrating a huge drug scheme including murder and chaos that spanned two decades.
According to a book published last year, he is still legally married to his first wife, Alejandrina Salazar, a social worker whom he married in 1977. Members of Mexico’s army, lawmakers, and the governor of Sinaloa are said to have attended the wedding ceremony. The couple has 10-year-old twin children.
