The Idaho college student’s mother, Kristi Goncalves said that her daughter had several stabbing wounds and that the layout of the bedroom made it difficult for Kaylee to escape. She said that the bed was up against the wall, with the headboard and left side of the bed was touching the wall. They believe that Madison Moden was on the outside and Kaylee on the inside. With the setup of the bed, the Idaho college student was trapped.
Steve Goncalves said that his daughter and Mogen were sleeping in a room on the third floor of the house of the house when Bryan Kohberg attacked them. Mogen was his first victim, before he killed Kaylee.

28 year old criminal justice student, Bryan Kohberg, is accused of fatally stabbing the Idaho college student, Kaylee Goncalves, along with three others named: Madison Moden, Ethan Chapin, and Xana Kernodle, inside an off-campus house on November 12, 2022.
The Idaho college student’s mother suspected that the killer may have been surprised to see the two friends in the same bed. She thinks that his plan went awry and instead of only killing one, he killed four. Xana Kernodle’s father said that he also believed that his daughter tried to fight back.
Meanwhile, the killer of the Idaho college student and her friends was arrested at his parents house in Pennsylvania in late December, almost two months after her killed the four. He is currently in custody in Latah County on four counts of first degree murder and one of a felony burglary. Last month, he waived his right to a speedy trial as the defense and prosecution scramble to prepare for arguments, yet despite the delay in proceeding, the Idaho college student’s family believe that they are convinced that Kohberg is guilty of the crime.
