Yesterday afternoon, a 53-year-old man from Portsmouth was arrested on suspicion of drug driving after two lorries collided on the M27. This caused significant traffic disruptions as Hampshire Roads Policing Unit tweeted about it shortly afterwards to confirm his arrest. Subsequent to this development, he was released under investigation.

National Highways reported three lanes were initially blocked on the motorway, leading to its eventual closure. It occurred between junction 2 Salisbury and junction 3 M271 of the M27. Emergency services including an air ambulance were sent to the scene to manage the situation.

National Highways warned motorists of lengthy traffic delays due to the closure of the motorway for several hours. They advised them to consider taking alternative routes and allow extra travel time if they were in the area; recovery operations had yet to be completed an hour after closure, and all lanes were reopened only at 10 am.

Minor Injuries Reported

Despite the severity of the crash, only minor injuries were reported, according to a police spokesman. ROMANSE traffic monitoring system reported delays of up to 45 minutes for motorists at times. Authorities have urged anyone with information about what occurred to come forward and contact police.

What Are the Consequences of Drug Driving?

Drug driving is a serious offense with serious potential outcomes, including accidents, injuries and fatalities. Driving under the influence of drugs is considered criminal offense and the penalties include imprisonment, fines and driving disqualifications. Drugs impair a driver’s ability to control their vehicle, raising accident risks for themselves and other road users alike.

Recently, authorities have been toughening up on drug driving with increased enforcement and harsher penalties. They’ve also launched campaigns to raise awareness about its dangers and encourage motorists not to drive after taking drugs. Despite these efforts, drug driving remains a significant problem on our roads; more needs to be done in order to address it effectively.

Staying Safe on the Roads

Driving safely requires concentration, skill, and a clear mind. To stay safe while driving, motorists should avoid driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, make sure their cars are roadworthy, adhere to traffic rules, stay alert while avoiding distractions, and be aware of their environment. Additionally, drivers should refrain from drinking excessive amounts of coffee or other intoxicants; stay awake; avoid distractions; and remain aware at all times.

The incident on M27 serves to emphasize the risks of drug driving and emphasizes how important it is to stay safe while driving. Arresting the driver responsible for the crash sends a clear message that such conduct will not be tolerated. All motorists must take responsibility for their actions, abstain from driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and together we can make our roads safer for all users.
