The Canadian music artist was recently transferred to North Kern State Prison in Delano, California, after he was sentenced to 10 years in prison earlier this year.

After the Canadian music artist was found guilty of shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion, it was reported that Lanez was scared for his life and safety due to his status as a celebrity. However, that report was disputed.

According to Black Enterprise, the Canadian music artist was scared for his life and safety because of his celebrity status. A source said that the Canadian music artist feels like he is an instant and direct target in jail because he is a celebrity.

TMZ reported that one of the Canadian music artist’s lawyers claimed that he was in isolation presently, but he prefers to be among the general population. However, claims about the Canadian music artist being afraid for his safety inside jail was disagreed by the lawyer and said that Lanez is not afraid of being around other inmates and does not want to get special treatment like most celebrity prisoners have received. The lawyer said that the Canadian music artist feels that he can handle himself in the environment.

The attorney also stated that people have been briefed Lanez about what can and does happens in prison. Lanez feels that he can’t fit in and handle what come along inside prison. The lawyer also acknowledged more access to programs and resources which the Canadian music artist wants to take advantage while he is serving his time.

Lanez was convicted in December of last year for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot on July 22, 2022 after a party at Kylie Jenner’s house. Jury found the Canadian music artist guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

According to TMZ, the Canadian music artist is isolated in his prison cell, and amid a new environment, he is gunning to be among other inmates and is not afraid. A member of Tory’s legal team said that he has spoken to the artist a few times since he was denied of a bond pending his appeal, he said that Tory has a preference on where he want to be housed at the new facility – gen pop.

Tory’s first choice is to be among other inmates, as opposed to being siloed in a protective wing, where most high profile inmates often go. His lawyer told TMZ that Lanez wants to be among the common crowd. There are practical reasons as to why Tory wants to be placed in gen pop. As inmates in gen pop tends to have access to more programs and resources – like help and support groups – than special wing inmates do. Tory wanted to take the options and take advantage of those programs and resources.
