Virginia, also known as the “Old Dominion,” is a state in the mid-Atlantic area of the United States. Its population is expected to reach 8.6 million in 2022.

According to SouthWest Journal, The vast northern Virginian metropolitan area, which includes both Baltimore and Washington, is home to more than one third of all Virginians.

The most populous city in the state is Virginia Beach, even though Richmond serves as its capital.

Virginia is geographically diversified, with a topography that ranges from sandy beaches through the rich Shenandoah Valley and up to the Blue Ridge/Appalachian Mountains.

The Commonwealth of Virginia is steeped in history as one of the original thirteen colonies of the United States.

In a similar vein, you wouldn’t want to take a vacation in an unreliable location. There are numerous beautiful locations and tourist attractions in Virginia. Not all is positive, though, as this state also includes several noteworthy mostdangerous areas.

1. Roanoke

The list of Virginia’s most dangerous areas is headed by Roanoke. This 97,915-person city’s far western section has a crime rate that is 228% higher than the state’s average. With 36 killings, 138 thefts, 529 assaults, and 3,007 larcenies reported in 2022, residents have a 1 in 19 chance of becoming a victim of any crime.

2. Martinsville

Another Virginia city known for having high crime rates is Martinsville. With 5,766 people living there, the crime rate in Greensville County is 4,203 per 100,000 people, which is 61% more than the national average. A total of 166 crimes, including 22 violent incidents and 144 property offenses, were committed in 2022.

3. Waynesboro

The community of Waynesboro in southwest Virginia, which is close to the Appalachian Foothills, has a high crime rate. With a crime rate of 3,768 per 100,000 people, the area’s 6,720 residents have a one in 27 chance of becoming victims of crime. Nine assaults, 25 break-ins, 187 arson attacks, and 22 auto thefts occurred in 2022.

4. Lynchburg

Lynchburg, in Halifax County, experiences poverty and a weak economy, which has a negative impact on population growth. Its 7,588 citizens now have a crime rate of 3,587 per 100,000, meaning that the likelihood of becoming a victim of any crime is 1 in 28.

5. Hampton

One of Virginia’s most dangerous cities is Hampton, which is also home to the largest naval facility in the world. Hampton reported 9,850 crimes in the previous year, including 63 killings and 1,364 assaults, for a crime rate of 3,354 per 100,000 people, 43% more than the average crime rate in the United States.
