Rocky Mount Police Department’s High-Speed Chase Leads to Arrest of David Edwards and Melody Shipman

According to the WITN article, in a recent occurrence in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the fatal shooting of a man that took place over the weekend. The Rocky Mount Police Department has made significant strides in resolving this case.

The individuals in question, namely 28-year-old David Edwards and 31-year-old Melody Shipman, were taken into custody after a high-speed chase that transpired in High Point, North Carolina. Their arrest was prompted by the identification of their vehicle, a 2001 Toyota Camry, which had been flagged as a felony-wanted vehicle linked to the shooting. High Point law enforcement, in cooperation with the Rocky Mount Police Department, discovered a firearm within the vehicle at the time of their apprehension.

The incident unfolded following the response of the Rocky Mount Police Department to a ShotSpotter alert at around 12:53 a.m. on September 2nd, in the 900 block of Long Avenue. Shortly thereafter, a report was received concerning an individual lying on the sidewalk in front of 931 Tessie St. Upon arrival, officers encountered 39-year-old Jermaine Pone, who had sustained a gunshot wound. Despite the valiant efforts of first responders to save his life, Pone tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Rocky Mount Police Department Links Homicide to Recent Chicago Relocates; Charges Filed in High Point

According to the ABC11 article, Rocky Mount Police Department detectives successfully linked suspects David Edwards and Melody Shipman to the Rocky Mount homicide. Authorities believe a confrontation occurred between the victim, Jermaine Pone, and the suspects on August 25th, culminating in a fatal shooting on September 2nd. Edwards and Shipman, originally from Chicago, recently relocated to Rocky Mount and have prior felony convictions.

High Point police filed charges against Edwards and Shipman, including firearm possession by a felon. Edwards faces additional charges related to a high-speed chase, including felony evading arrest. Both are currently incarcerated without bail in a Guilford County jail. The ongoing investigation falls under the Rocky Mount Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
